Sauteed Cabbage with Bacon

Sometimes something so simple can be comforting and delicious. And that's exactly what this sauteed cabbage recipe does. This recipe only uses 5 ingredients plus a dash of salt and pepper. It is a quick dish that takes little effort and very little time. Because all the ingredients are pretty affordable, you can make this dish for less than $3 for the entire dish! So I don't see any reason why you're not making this recipe right now.

Sauteed cabbage is low in calories but high in nutrients and great on flavor. It's one of my go-to dishes when I'm in a pinch on time or money.

I use the rendered bacon fat to saute the cabbage so the flavors of bacon can be tasted throughout the dish without having to use much meat. This is such an easy recipe to make, you'll make it again and again. Cabbage is an excellent source of vitamin K and a good source of vitamin C. Cabbage is also a low calorie food and filling so it's a great food to incorporate in a low-calorie diet. Now this recipe isn't as low as it could be because of the bacon but the bacon also makes this recipe #ketofriendly.

I tried keto for a little bit of time and I wasn't the biggest fan of the diet. It was too restrictive on the foods I love. And I'm not just talking about the pasta and rice. There were too many yummy vegetables that I didn't enjoy while following #keto strictly. The keto diet requires that your macronutrients be 70% fat, 20% protein, and 10% carbohydrates. In order to get 70% fat, I was adding bacon, avocado, and eggs to almost everything. I would love it when foods just naturally feel into compliance. Sausage and cobb salads just naturally went that way. But after a week I was over it. LOL... I mean that's when your body is just starting to starve and get into the groove. And that's when I wanted to crawl into a bubble because there was a "rage" a.k.a. keto flu bubbling under the surface. But I do think that keto has benefits of jump starting a new habit into a healthy lifestyle. Consult a dietitian to find what best fits your lifestyle so you can achieve your personalized health goals.
